Digital Career in a Time of Change

In the summer of 2022, more than half (51%) of domestic IT specialists assessed the prospects for further development of their industry negatively, almost 40% were optimistic. In a survey conducted in January-February of this year by the Association of Electronic Communications (RAEC), 45% of IT specialists demonstrated optimism in assessing the future of the IT industry, 44% felt negative. The number of those who find it difficult to make forecasts increased content writing service slightly - from 9.6% in the summer of last year to 10.5% in the winter of 2023. The results of the survey were presented by RAEC chief analyst Maria Saykina at the Russian Internet Forum (RIF 2023).

The chief analyst of the RUSSOFT association, Dmitry Zhelvitsky, told RSpectr that in the last year, a lot of newcomers have appeared on the domestic labor market who have not received very high-quality training in various training centers (we are talking about retraining). The expert believes that their prospects in the industry are “not very good.”



– Even experienced IT specialists who are doing well may not be in a very optimistic mood. This is their peculiarity. If we compare them with specialists in other fields, their payment and working conditions are much better, and there may be more dissatisfaction. So it is better to pay attention to the fact that there are more positively minded people. Changes in this case are more important than absolute values.

He added that

During times of major change, career advancement is more likely, but you need to have certain competencies, experience and a desire to solve complex problems

Head of the SAP development group at IBS, Daria Chuvashova, in an interview with RSpectr noted that the IT industry is currently growing, which creates a great demand for specialists in various fields. Therefore, university graduates have a wide choice of vacancies and opportunities, she emphasized. At the same time, with the advent of new technologies, the digital market has become even more dynamic, which requires high analytical skills, serious knowledge, continuous learning and readiness for new things.

This is a real challenge for people who have already established themselves in the profession, the expert emphasized. In her opinion, it is important to understand that the threshold for entering the profession is still high, and education and courses from online schools alone are not enough for a successful start.

For qualified developers, career opportunities have remained the same – these personnel are currently in short supply, believes Ksenia Koskova, HR Director of the digital platform for organizing business trips and managing expenses at Raketa.

Alexandra Min, HR Director at the MyOffice software developer, believes that Russia is still a job seeker’s market, but she assumes that the situation on the global market as a whole may change.

– Companies will pay closer attention to the efficiency and sustainability of business, due to which the number of vacancies may decrease. The supply of specialists will continue to grow and in some specializations even exceed demand, including due to government support measures, the popularization of digital professions and the growth of job seekers on the Russian market.

Perhaps for the first time in a long time, the IT labor market will become an employer's market, she suggested.
